As with other eastside creeks, small mayfly and midge patterns both dry and nymph work well. Remember that the Crowley Lake Tributaries, except for the upper Owens River, do not open until the Saturday before Memorial Day. Three to five AB or BB sized shot will be needed to get the flies down on the substrate where the trout are feeding. Bishop Creek in Bishop and Owens River Gorge are worth checking out for winter fly fishing spots. I do not target actively spawning trout on their redds.
