L’éditeur a annoncé ce lundi qu’il ne publierait pas le livre des deux journalistes français accusés d’avoir fait du chantage à Mohammed VI, le roi du Maroc. Le Seuil parle de “relation de confiance” “dissoute”.

The editor announced on Monday that they will not publish the book by two French journalists who have been accused of blackmailing the king Mohammed VI of Marocco. The publishers spoke about “levels of truth” and “dissolution”.

“La publication envisagée ne saurait avoir lieu”. Dans un communiqué, les éditions du Seuil annoncent qu’ils ne publieront pas le livre d’Eric Laurent et Catherine Gracier sur le Maroc. L’éditeur précise que “la relation de confiance” entre l’éditeur et les auteurs est “de facto dissoute”.  Les conditions de rédaction de l’ouvrage font l’objet d’une vive polémique depuis plusieurs jours et même de démêlés judiciaires. Les deux journalistes sont soupçonnés d’avoir tenté de monnayer l’abandon du projet de livre quii devait révéler des informations gênantes sur le roi du Maroc Mohammed VI. Samedi, ils ont d’ailleurs été mis en examen pour chantage et extorsion de fonds, et placés sous contrôle judiciaire.

“The publication is not envisioned to take place”. In a communiqué, the general distributer publisher announced they will not publish the the book by Eric Laurent et Catherine Gracier about Marocco. The editor specified that “relations between editor and authors is “de facto dissolved”. The writing of the book has been the object of tense argument and legal wrangling for many days. The two journalists are suspected of demanding payment to abandon the book project which is believed would reveal troublesome information about the king of Morocco Mahammed VI. On Saturday it emerged that they were questioned around blackmail and extortion, and placed under legal restrictions about their movements. 

Les différentes parties de l’affaire se rejettent la responsabilité de la tentative de corruption. Dans une interview au Parisien ce lundi matin, Catherine Graciet explique, “c’est le Palais qui propose”, “qui corrompt”. Et la journaliste explique qu’elle est “tombée dans un piège”.  La défense du roi du Maroc, par la voix de Me Dupond Moretti, évoque “un chantage”. ” Un journaliste qui dit je ne publie pas mon livre moyennant finance c’est du jamais vu” a réagi l’avocat du roi du Maroc.

Both parties to the affair have rejected their respective responsibilities concerning allegations of corruption. In an interview with the Parisien newspaper on Monday Catherine Graciet, co-author explained: “it was the palace that made the proposal, they are corrupt”. And the journalist explained that she “fell into a trap”. On the other side, the defence for the king of Marocco, spokesman Maitre Dupont Moretti, called it “blackmail”. “A journalist who said they wouldn’t publish if money passed hands I’ve never seen”, the King’s barrister reacted.
